The most beautiful island of Bretagne is also the richest in architectures, landscapes and cultures. Through its 85 km2 of unspoiled nature, which makes it the largest island of the Ponant islands, Belle Ile en Mer has inspired many artists like Gustave Flaubert, Sarah Bernhardt, Claude Monet, or Arletty who stayed there.
Among the remarkable sites that witnessed the rich history of the island, the citadel Vauban in Palais has protected the Bellilois since 1683, the needles of Port-Coton painted by Claude Monet draw the rocky coast on the town of Bangor, the many beaches of which that of the Grands Sables are connected by the coastal paths allowing to make all the tour of the island in one week. The port of Sauzon and its colorful village to the north of the island, or further east, Locmaria, the oldest village on the island and its agricultural environment, both offer exceptional and exotic paintings.

Belle Ile en Mer offers many cultural highlights throughout the year, such as: the Belle-Ile On Air festival (August), the Theatre du Bord du Champ festival (July-August), Belle Ile en Jazz (September) , the Belle-ile-en-Mer lyrical festival (July-August), the Chambre Plage musicale en Bangor music festival (July).
Many restaurants and local producers offer you to taste crepes and Breton traditional wafers, seafood or gourmet cuisine, or nearly 50 addresses for all budgets and tastes spread throughout the island.
